I sit here thinking, if I was shipped off tomorrow what would I regret and what would I miss. (apart from certain people)

I am not sure about what I would miss, but I would really regret not seeing the best bits of this country, so I have started my road trip ; ok a day trip most weekends to see the places I have never seen York , Scotland, bits of Europe.

I feel sad that I have been here most of my adult life and can't actually think of something I will miss. I can think of lot' s that I won't miss but I won't list that (the list isn't finished) I don't feel like I have lost time in my life but wonder what it is that has kept me here if I can't think of something about the lifestyle I will miss.

I don't hate this place, well some days I do, but ..

The missus and I have a sort of two-year plan in which we hope to see all the places that are easy to reach from the UK but difficult (and expensive!) to reach from Australia.

Places like France, Spain, Scotland, and various locations around the UK.

Then, once we're living in Australia, we'll visit the places which are easy to reach from Australia - like Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, etc.

My experience is you only miss something when it's not there. Wait till you emmigrate, give it a year and then re-evaluate what you will miss.

I felt exactly the same as you before I left the U.K. and now I find that I miss the most insignificant things and a great number of them too.

I would highly recommending the travelling, you're a long time dead.

I don't actually miss anything from the UK, only family and friends. I too still have places in England that I would like to see some day but I think that will be same no matter where you live. When you visit somewhere for a holiday you make a conscious effort to see all the things you want to as you know you are there for a short period of time but when you live there you know you have all the time in the world so often don't get round to doing things.

Glad to know I am not going over the top. I have started making a list of places in the uk that I want to visit. I know this may sound boring, but if you haven't been there it is something new. Last week I took my son to Leeds and this weekend we are off to York. I also discovered to day Nottingham and Sherwood Forrest. It's funny how you can take your country for granted until you know you wont be here forever. I am just getting to know what other cities have to offer. Then there is Europe, oh heck just thinking about it makes me want to have a rest.
