Talking We've arrived

We have been in Melbourne 3 days and today sorted out renting a house (paying more that we originally planned) but there was not a huge amount of rental properties available in Mentone. Anyway it is a nice 3 bed, 2 bathroom in a nice road and near good schools. We can't move in until the 17th but where we are staying - Melbourne Holiday Park is adequate for now, apart from not being in the area we want. We have hired a car and hope to buy one soon. All in all things seem to be getting sorted, apart from the cold and the rain - wish we had brought more winter clothes, I am reassured this is unusual and will get better. We are finding everyone very friendly and helpful and I think we will settle in quickly once we are in the house and the kids are settled in school.

We had no problems coming through immigration or customs even though we had 11 suitcases and lots of electrical stuff we bought in Singapore, we declared it on the immigration card but they just had a quick look at the boxes and waved us through. Even at Heathrow the Singapore Airlines staff were friendly and no problems with the 40kg luggage allowance. Flights were fine, the kids were entertained with the movies and games on each seat - great choice.

I apologise for rambling but will keep you updated on things progress for us.

Are you going out there to jobs? My husband wants to emmigrate, me not so sure, we like you have 2 kids, but mine are both under 5 and so would have to go to creche for me to work. We would have to go to Richmond, which is nearish Sydney, therefore prices on properties are quite steep and he would get a job where I don't think the money is that great - decisions!

Hi Mel

Welcome to sunny Melbourne

The forecast says that we'll have some nice weather later in the week, followed by some more rain, so enjoy it while it's here.

Regards

Good luck with your new life hope all goes well for you, my parents have some friends in Melbourne that we met up with when we did a reccy, they were great and very welcoming, even cooked us a Sunday roast on a Thursday, felt like home from home. They live about 20 minutes from St Kilda, very nice place, but I can't remember what it's called now, which is useful. We're actually heading for Perth hope to be there in January 2005.

Anyway good luck hope all goes well for you and your family.
