well cheesed off!!
We went to Aus House in the strand yesterday for an interview for a front-end loaded visa application for my partner of 10 years Bev and our little boy 4. I am Aus citzen by decent.
We got down there really ealry from where we live in Worcs, had some breakfast and got in the queue at 7.50 and were about 10th, with Bev's interview schedlued for 9.30.
She been nervous about this as we have so many of our hopes now pinned on this move. An we knew that they could grant the visas on the day all being well and we could get on with everything.
Anyway, when Bev was called up at 9.30 the girl went thorugh all our paperwork, stacks of it, really fast said every was perfect, and just when we are thinking job done, we passed across the medicals at the end. She studied the forms and said that my little boys check were fine, but that Bev's will have to be referred to a panel of doctors for them to look at and told us she could not make a decision today.
The background here is Bev found a lump in one of her breasts about 18 months ago like lots of people do. They ran a bunch of rountine tests, everything negatvie, and one inconclusive, as a precaustion they said that she should come back every six months for a routine breast exam, which is what she does. (next appointment monday). Everyone has told her their is nothing wrong, the doctor who did the medicals for Aus when he went through this with her said as far as he was concerned she was fit and well, but they may want supporting evidence from the consultant and GP which we provided and explained the situation exactly as above.
Bascially it would seem on the medical form the doctor completes that there is one section that says breat examination normal or abnormal. By the doctor ticking abnormal (as he has to because of the above) the case officer at Aus house has just immediatly said that she then can't make a decision and it has to go to these doctors. She then explained that we should expect her to contact us in circa 2 weeks time.
The interview was going fantastically it seemed like such a formality and we both came away feeling so deflated its mad.
I cannot believe they will not grant visas in light of the above, I don't know if anybody has a view?? but this is routine regular check and she has never been diagnosed with anything. The waiting has be horribe already but now seems set to go on a bit.
Bev very upset on the back of this, but what can you do??
Sorry for the long story. Just felt the need to tell everyone how p*ssed off we are.

Hi James & Bev,
You poor souls, feel so sorry for you, but don't give up hope.
Just remember its not refused just referred to the panel. I heard from a guy who went for his visa (spouse/de facto - one or the other) and his doctor had said he had high blood pressure or something on the day of the medical. Because of that they couldn't grant it on the spot, purely because it has to been approved by a doctor, and not by the case officer. I guess its just a rule that an "abnormal" tick has to be checked by the panel.
As Bev was given the all-clear, I'm sure you will have no problem getting the visa, just means an extra wait, so try and think positive (I know its easier said than done). From what I've seen on the forums its unlikely to be refused.
Will keep my fingers crossed for you; I'm sure it'll be OK in the end.

Hard luck James & Bev. I think Polyana's right, ie they are just following a procedure which no doubt says anything on the medical with an X in the wrong box needs to be referred to a specialist. From your post it sounds a formality that the specialist will give the all clear in that there is no significant likelihood that Bev will place a high burden on the Aus health service. Therefore you probably just have to go through the stress of waiting, hope that's all it is but common sense suggests there's nothing wrong with Bev.

Really sorry to hear your story. You must be feeling very low at the moment. I had bad times just waiting to hear, so with the complications you have it must be awful.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
Good Luck

Sorry to hear about all this guys
There's nothing worse than getting your hopes up for something and then getting them dashed.
I really hope it all works out quickly for you. Tell Bev I know how she feels as I had something similar a while ago.

I am sure it wont be the first time a lowly clerk has had to refer to a panel simply because of a tick in a different box. Try not to be too despondent - I think Pollyanna and Don are right. Good luck to you all and I'm sure you'll be in Oz before you know it!

Hey there James + Bev..
Just wondering have your heard any feedback about when you can expect to get an answer with regards to your application..
I'm in a similar boat to you's two as I had high blood pressure when I went for my medical for a DeFacto spouse visa ...
That was on the 12th of May and have still not heard yes or no with regards to the application.. At the time we were told we'd have to wait 2 - 3 weeks for a response but it's 10th of June now and we're still waiting...
Hopefully you won't have to wait so long as it's frustrating not knowing what's happening...
