I found this site last night when looking at property in Oz:

You can get info on the suburbs in the different states, e.g. distance to CBD, median age of residents, median house sale price, and transport links.
Some of the states give more info than others - after a quick search, WA and QLD seem most useful, VIC gives only some info, and I think you have to pay to get anything out of NSW!
