-are we mad?

Not really - I'm in one of those "Australia is great" phases at the minute - but we all know that migration isn't easy and there is a significant chance of return. To give up what seems like a pretty great life seems crazy to me.

Do you have a close family and a good network of friends in the UK? If so, why would you want to leave them? With your OH's excellent salary and 10 weeks holiday, you can have more than 'a bit of an adventure' every year.
Leaving behind such a good life for something fairly unknown is quite mad IMHO.

Thinking same thing, if you have a great salary plus 10 weeks holiday, why chuck it in, just travel. The day to day life with 3 kids going to be pretty much the same anywhere, if you have close family why give all that up adds to your life.
On the other hand if you can get a similar salary and work conditions in australia
and can afford to do the round the world shuffle if you dont like it, as long as you can handle the huge financial setback that costs most returning.

thanks for all your replies, some good advise! we do have family, as i said life is pretty good, couldnt want much more but do i really want to hit 70 and have never experienced anything other than my home town. we live in the lake district, i dont need to lock doors and kids can play safely, although opportunities are limited for the kids and oh can not imagine working in the same job for another 23 year( having done 21). we can always come back (maybe things wouldnt be quite so cushy) but its not all about material things. Anyway lots to think about! we are going to apply for visa and see how we feel when it comes (some days we.re definately going, other i have doubts) thanks you guys. good luck to you all

read papers, watch news, go to a dentist
experience what travel you could do here. That 10 weeks could answer your own questions
