Warning !!!
Have been in Perth two months now and really do love it .... but tonight some cheeky f@*ker has come into our house through the side entrance, past my kids bedrooms (thank god they were asleep) into the kitchen and pinched my purse with all my bank cards, licence etc, mobile phone and ipod .... while we were watching telly !!!
Don't care about the things that got pinched as thats just a mild inconvenience BUT dread to think what could have happened if one of the kids had bumped into whoever  ...... anyway the cops have just left but obviously its a case of going through the motions as they will be long gone, just wanted to warn others. |

Re: Warning !!!
gosh!! what a scary experience!
friends had similar happen here in UK - really shook them up, seriously looked at selling their house! but settled down again, shock disperses after a while I guess! keeping the side door locked now I guess! |
Re: Warning !!!
I know Nev they are bloody everywhere !!! although I have escaped it up until now and it could have been worse.
It was the laundry door that was open as I had the dryer on ... if you don't open it you get loads of water dripping down the walls BUT in future it will be locked at all times sod the paintwork !!! |

Really sorry to hear what happened to you, we are parents too and can imagine how bad you feel.. It's all very scary...We had a bad experience in Aus too..(had no kids back then) I'd been out for the evening, returned to our unit in the Lower North Shore of Sydney...unlocked the door, tried to open it, but someone was holding it closed from the inside  When I eventually got inside the place was dark but the blinds were flapping in the breeze...Switched on the lights and the whole place had been trashed (everything of value had gone)....felt terrible, and couldn't wait to leave after that! Yes, I know, this happens everywhere (mind you, lived in London for 15 years and had always managed to escape) When the police came they said we were just one of many cases in the area that month.. Then guess what!!?, the b******ds came back 6 months later to the day and did the same again...whilst we were getting married :( I feel for you. |
Re: Warning !!!
Sel,
Im sorry to hear your news.It just goes to show how scarily desperate some of these people can be.I know its upsetting that the sod invaded your privacy and stole your stuff but looking on the bright side you are all safe after the whole episode. Also youre all young enough (Im guessing)to eventually get over it,some of the elderly never do and some die from the shock of it all. I hope you can put it behind you and i hope the "Rozza's" get them!! Good luck M J |

For the first few weeks after the first time I couldn't bear to be home alone and was terrified to go in if the place was empty. I kept telling my husband I wanted to leave (as we had a 6 month lease we couldn't) But to be honest after a while I became much more confident and pretty much forgot about it....I'm sure you will be the same (I can fully understand the anxiety around the kids....I would be just the same) The thing to remember is that generally it's a one off (druggies that are chancers) I sure you can relax....but keep the doors locked!!!! :D |

Stela :) We lived in Gordon Avenue, Chatswood (just off the Pacific Highway) We left Aus in Jan 2002 and came back to the UK. We are now in the process of moving back (but to Brisbane this time!!) My hubby is from Sydney and said that crime on the lower North shore was very common due to it being a particularly affluent area (the police also told us this at the time) Our neighbours had metal bars on the windows!!!! :scared: Shortly after we were burgled I was chatting with a couple of patients on my ward who lived in a the same sort of area and many of them had similar horror stories...one told me how her house was robbed by druggies whilst her 9 month old sat in his playpen watching them :( When she walked into the room and confronted them, they begged her to let them go as they needed the money so badly for heroin..... nice |

I feel for you. They waited for you to claim on the insurance and buy new goods... It's quite a common technique, sadly. :( (Edit: - Which I see Vash already mentioned... ) I'm really sorry this happened to you. I think I'd wait in with a baseball bat and surprise the bastards. |
Re: Warning !!!
Hi, thanks for that info, that area sounds dreadful :scared: . def wont be going there  . The areas we have been looking into are between Newcastle & Sydney coastline, we like the look of a place called cococabana?, has your husband heard of this and its reputation?. Yeah Brisbane is nice place, my best friend lives in Redhill. Sydney is the choice for us, with my husbands job, i hope it goes well for you, and you get your visa soon ;) .

Really sorry about the burglary. It doesn't bear thinking about with children in the house. Mind you at least they shouldn't be traumatised by it. |

Could you attach one? I should think Bunnings would be able to sort that. If you're in a rental, ask the landlord to secure it for you.... |

God that sort of thing scares the sh!t out of me! So glad to hear that your kids werent aware of it. Sorry to hear though that your new life has been marred by some tosser who doesnt give a sh!t about anyone else. Hope they get the bas!ards! |
Re: Warning !!!
A common trick is someone comes to your front door asks some stupid question like " does Barry live here" then they try to keep the conversation going for example by asking for directions to some street,to keep you there while his friend goes around your back door and robs your house.

Re: Warning !!!
Argh, how scary!
And by 'coincidence', my friend experienced nearly the same last week, in Dianella(on Mt Lawley side). There was a guy IN her bedroom! And it's a two story house, and she is upstairs!! It was around 6am, just before the alarm went off, she saw someone in the room, and mumbled something like 'what are you doing in here'(half asleep). He said back something like 'nothing, go back to sleep', and quickly left. At that point something must have clicked(like that it wasn't her brother or dad!), and she started screaming(her mum said later that as soon as she heard her screaming, she new something was seriously wrong, and lost her voice temporarily!). But I think by that time he had gone. I don't know if he got away with anything. He came in downstairs via the laundry, but don't know if that was unlocked(I must still ask her all this). Anyway, the police CAUGHT THE BASTARD!!!!!! He was a professional, was not from the area. THis was probably his last job of the night, and they were going to pin him on this one, because it's worse to break into someon'e house when there's people inside! (home invasion it's called). My friend said something about a footprint in the sand, and that she had to make a statement(she probably didn't have to do the lineup thing). |

Its the after effects of this sort of thing happening which is really horrible, when you constantly mull it over in your mind regarding the "what if's and could of's" and if anything had happened to my children ..... |
