Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
I have been told of for this before and I know the familes are probably reading this so I will try and be careful..................the EDITING in all series shows that people do not do their own research into the cost of living, houses (both getting a valuation on their own or the cost and what you get for the Australian ones) and don't think about their families/friends or the "lifestyle" they are leaving behind...................I am saying this as it is shown in everyone I have seen and as I can only go on this as I don;t know the families than to me it would put (at least some people) off going.

Classic 'nuclear' family, one not sure, show's at least one UK flag, house gets valued less than what they expect, cost of living more than they thought, but they all raise OZ flags at the end!...ZZZZzz lets have some reality and variety please ;)

I must find out how that woman in todays episode stomps her feet and sulks so effectively I've tried that on my hubby when all else has failed and it doesn't work
He still didn't look overly convinced to me but nevermind. |

No kids = no opportunity for sad grandparents faces on the family video & no opportunity to trot out.....'we're doing it for the kids'. Both essential ingredients of the show. |

But we'll have to arrange a get-together here some time as well. I don't see why the meet-ups should be confined to those already "on the other side" |

Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
Almost finished watching todays WDU
Haven't reached the mundane family and friends bit but I think for once this was a really positive one  Can totally relate to Jackie's lets go, lets not cause thats how I was last time. Can't help but like Ian and for the first time this series i've actually laughed most the way through it - I think he's hysterically funny and comes across as a real cheeky chappy. I loved the girls when they met that other family - very very sweet with the hugging. Please tell me they edited lots - either that or Ethan is the most content baby in the world !!!!! Ughhh just watched the friends and family, did feel a bit bad for the older parents but the friends making her feel bad for going wasn't nice, surely regardless of how much it hurts you you want the best for your friends be it UK or Oz, can't they be friends 8,000 miles away? yes it'd be different but you deal with it? I love it when he said thanks for undoing all my good work all week LOL God love him he tried LOL  |
Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
Oooh ooooh oooooh
PAGES what did you decide?????????????? Ughhhhhhh noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I wanna know what they eventually decided ???????????? Oh poo :frown: gonna sulk now |

Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
Hi :) Personally, I just found myself wanting to slap that woman today, but I recognise that's probably only because I'm desperate to move but can't just yet :o
I just felt so sorry for the husband, he was so lovely & surely if you saw someone you allegedly loved, so desperate to give it a shot, you would say okay, this isn't what I want, but I'll try it for a year or so, even if it was just to prove him wrong? Especially since the kids were at an age where they could give it a go for a couple of years with no real harm to their education??? I dunno, it takes all sorts I guess :) |
Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
I agree with you totally! I was yelling at the telly! Makes ya mad!

Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
I thought for someone who wasn't really interested at all to begin with she did really well?
I think some of the lifestyle aspects really appealed to her and the possible advantages mainly for the kids were exciting but when you've never been interested in moving abroad part of you will always be torn. I give her her dues for not being totally negative about everything, she could have quite easily been that way. What I do find annoying is the people who give it all the yeah yeah we want to move, better life it's the way forward and then they get over there and complain about everything, and amongst the most bizarre and stupid things said 'the houses are so different here they're nothing like UK houses, I don't think thats true in all cases but most people watch tv an don tv homes are different in Africa to the UK, they're different in America so why wouldn't they be different in Australia? Another bug bear is allowing a young child to rule the decision for the whole family, some children would only choose to eat the same foods every day, if you don't encourage them to try new things you end up with ppl like the bloke in the papers a few years back that still at 35 or whatever he was only ever eats Jam on toast :blink: If you allow a child to choose they're bedtime they could be up til the early hours, wanting to play outside at midnight. Small children are not the best judge of what is right for them so i'll be happy if they don't put any small children on there having a paddy saying i'm not going and if I don't want to go no one will go.... Despite her HUGE reservations today they seemed very close as a family, the woman Monday was very honest, 'if he doesn't agree to go his life will be very difficult' and the dirty looks throughout the whole thing scared the crap out of me so heaven knows how her husband felt. Roll on the revisiteds I say I wanna see what people are up to now who went out last time |
Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
After today's episode my husband refuses to watch any more. He wanted to punch Jackie when she said that she wanted to move into that house they are staying in straight of the bat. No working you way up to it or starting small.
She appeared to only be saying the right things for her husband and not because she actually wanted to move. Can't believe they already have their visa's and she's do dead set against it! Live a little. Be daring and take a chance. You never know what's around the corner. |
Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
I liked the family. Yeah the house thing bugged me a bit but I reckon it was a half-hearted cunning plan to derail a move by setting unachievable conditions.
The family and friends heart-strings is what seems to kill the dream most of the time. But to be honest if I had elderly parents and my children were their only grand children I'm not sure if we'd be able to do it. |

Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
I'm with you on the kids thing JenJen....& the other thing that narks me is that they make the children watch the friends & family dvd - shouldn't kids that are essentially having their futures decided by their parents be spared that agony? Especially if the child is happy & settled in their own minds about going - what purpose is served by having the tv cameras on some poor little kid crying over missing their grandma, or their best friend at school, or whoever.
That Scottish girl (Kirsty) I think, last week, was amazing: 15 years in the same little village with family & friends all her life, obviously old enough to understand the implications & full of reservations, but still wanting to have a go & not close any opportunities down to herself - great kiddy, her parents should be proud  |
Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
Jennigee,
My 2 daughters (aged 3 and 5) and my son (aged 1) were not in the same room as us when we were shown the F&F video. They had a child minder looking after thm in the garden. They are young but my eldest is very switched on and would have understood much of the video |
Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
Hi
Fully agree with you on the whole kids thing - I don't even let my children watch that bit on the telly in case it puts ideas in their heads about being upset! :sneaky:

Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
Yes have to give them they're dues there are a number of kids on the program who accept that bit for what it is.
I know my family and friends wouldn't do that to us, but if they did I would be livid with them if we'd said look this is really what we want and then they sat there going don't go we'll miss you, we won't see the kids and you'll be so far away. How is that fair? Does grate on me, I keep meaning to skip it but i'm normally doing something else while that bit is on, obviously skipping woul dbe better cause I can still hear all the crap and it still winds me up LOL So whose on tomorrow??????? la la la la la remind me when the revisiteds start? |
