I know accountants & engineers that dont get paid that much!
I'm happy to be proved wrong however .
Interestingly, on a similar note, federal politicians only have a base salary of just over $100,000/year. No wonder we have some of the crappiest politicians on earth :scared: .
BTW, did you mean Carindale which is just south of Brisbane?

Gee, I need to re-train I think
I've a friend who's a lawyer (albeit fairly young) and he only makes slightly more than that.
If thats what the guy was been quoted, good luck to them, but I feel it may be a bit lower for most people.

Based on ABCD's figures a salary of $100k is about twice average earnings - sounds about right. I'm not sure of the %ages but I suspect fewer than 10% (and probably more like 5%) earn $100k or more. There is a high proportion of such people on the site but I don't think any are floor layers.

If you can get all the papers, you will earn more by subcontracting, big responsility tho, the principal subbie will be held responsible by the BSA or similar for years, and bigger firms dont pay all the money owed there is a retention system.
If you go out on your own as a subbie you dont get per hour you put in a price for a job, and plenty will tender each job.
Someone asked about painters we just paid $2800 for a fully painted 3 coats on a 2500 sm house. Think the guys who work for the subbie take home about $6/700 a week.
Trades like carpenters on $35 an hour are considered to be doing very well especially out of the cities. Make that and your aussies mates will think your very well paid.

Pre boom plenty would work for $20/$25 casual. Amusingly tho theres plenty of new arrivals from overseas undercutting rates to get in the door as most builders have their regular subbies.

As a licensed wall & floor tiler I lay ceramic floor tiles, terracotta tiles and slate floors. A floor layer would lay sheet flooring, vinyl's [lino], thermoplastic tiles, non slip flooring, some lay parquet flooring, though it probably requires a separate trade licence here.
$100k a yr working for someone as a floor layer is very ambiguous. Top salary package for a building supervisor including 4 door car are as advertised today:
BUILDING SUPERVISOR
Mostly simple single storey. Multiple projects. Remuneration package up to $85,000 including a 4 door vehicle and participation in share plan. Must have current licence. Fax resume to (07) 3272 7656.
PS See post 2 on this thread for the rates for a sparkie.
