WA Driving Licence inspections
I was travelling down Brand Highway this morning and about 30 KM's south of Eneabba the police were pulling in all cars travelling south to inspect drivers licences for suspension. Bear in mind this place is in the bush and the nearest town 30 K's away and mobile phones don't work in that area, only satellite phones.
I got talking to the copper while they checked out my licence and asked what they would do if they found someone with a suspended licence. He said, we'll confiscate the car for 28 days and he pointed to a car transport truck further back in the rest area.
In WA it can take weeks or even months for a driver to be notified of an offence, so thier licence could be suspended without them knowing.
Anybody care to guess what the Police duty of care is on this situation?
I've asked Mrs LL to talk to her friend who is WAPOL, however I'd be disappointed to hear that the police have no responsibility to transport suspended drivers home.
