VW Repairs and services costs?
Hello,
Well we have a VW at the moment and are considering another in Oz. Would be people carrier maybe the transporter. (got 4 kids and this has lots of room)
However wondering if costs of servicing and parts will be very expenivie in WA.
As noted the Japanese vehicles seam popular in Oz.
Anyone know if a VW would be expensive to service and repair in WA?

You would be much better looking at a standard people carrier which are more common such as Hyundai Trajet, Kia Carnival, Toyota Tarago... that type of thing. (Beware of Kia Carnivals for timing belts, V6 Quad Cam can be expensive)
Some of the European makes are expensive and difficult to obtain parts. Items such as brake pads (VW's) are very often not available from the normal suppliers such as Repco and Coventry's, leaving the dealership (Skippers) as one of the only alternatives. There are a few European specialist which source their parts from Singapore and Europe, so you can get them but just not as easy and at the same price.
It's the 'silly' things like re-setting the service light after a service, on some models it can only be done by the dealer making it expensive to service and run.
We had a VW Golf in the other day with a blown gearbox/differential. To repair the gearbox was around $6,000. An exchange unit from VW was $8,500 and a new gearbox from VW was ..... wait for it.... $16,000 which was twice as much as the car was worth! I got a 2nd hand box from the wreckers yard for $2,500 in the end.
Do plenty of research.
