Default Visitor Visa to Work visa - in NZ....

Hi there

We have been in NZ for just over 3 weeks now and things are looking good on the job front. All being well on Wednesday i should get a job offer. We are currently in NZ as visitors and our plan is to go to the nearest immig office with our job offer, application, refs, quals and hopefully be granted a work visa.
My job is not on the shortage list but I had my qualification assessed by NZQA prior to leaving the Uk and was categorised on the QT as Cat C Level 5 which means 10 points.

I am getting nervous now that when we go to the immig office armed with our job offer etc they will send us packing!

Anyone out there been through this and is it quite straightforward? Also is it essential that the employer provide proof of advertising the vacancy and why an NZ Citizen didnt get the job?

Thank you and replies to keep me calm would be appreciated!

Hi Miller,

I think you will have to show proof from the employer, for a work permit anyway. Are you lodging for PR at the same time?

Something I was wondering about is the 'variation of conditions' form. Think it's mainly used to change from say a visitor's visa to a study visa, but there is a box on there to change from Vis to Work. Maybe this can be done as a temp measure while waiting for PR? Can't find much info on it though..

Anyone?

Hi Millertime,

I am in a fairly similar situation except that I am trying to sort it from the UK. I am not getting too nervous about it though, I am sure it is just a few formalities we may have to go through and hopefully out potential employers will be patient about this. Let us know how you get on. All the best.

Rob

PS. We have even made Gra slightly unsure on this one

Hi there, There is a section that says the defacto or spouse of the person with the job offer will be granted an open work visa for the same amount of time, so you can work for anyone for however length of time. The kids also get granted with visas but not sure which kind.

Our family did exactly what we are trying to do no bother but it was two years ago and I am just panicking that things have tightened up!

Gra cheers I will go and have a look for what you mentioned. Might give thelocal immig office a call too and ask for some advice.

Cheers all will keep you posted.
