Default Visa - jack it in now?

Now that we have finally decided to emigrate and are going down the skills route - thing is right - we reckon we can just jaunt off to Oz on a 6 month tourist visa and wait for it to come in ...both pretty p****d off at work so othis would work well for us...just want to get on the white beaches we have heard so much about. Never been to Oz but reckon it sounds well cool to go there...can we do this as my girlfriend reckons she readsomething about how your visa wont work if you get it when you are in Oz but have to be somewhere else. Can't wait to jack it in and ship out. fed up with grey skies and no hope.

Hi there
We know what you mean...we are well fed up too.
The application process can take a while.Up to 18 months I've been told...sometimes longer
Its a good idea to have a holiday in Oz in the area you are thinking of moving to.

Bad news,
the visa process is slow and takes a while!!

Start the ball rolling ASAPand get the forms in to dimma, then Wait & wait & wait, have a nice hol to Oz, (letting DIMA know once your file has been asigned ) wait, wait, wait, take meds before asked and then send them off when requested, Wait, Wait, get a letter telling you to wait, wait and then finally get a letter telling you to send off your passports, wait for then to put the visa in and then Book a flight! :scared:

I think the key word is er Wait!

Bye

There are people on this forum that have been waiting years to get a visa.

If you go to Aus using an ETA you can only stay for a maximum of 3 months at a time. There is provision to extend this. You will have to investigate this possibility.

A PR visa will not be issued if you are in Australia. If you're in Australia when the visa is about to be issued, you will have to leave. It is usual for people to go to NZ to get the visa in the passport.
It sounds like you're nowhere near far enough down the processing to be considering this.

You'd be a fool to assume eveything will turn out fine by doing it that way.

If your serious enough about Oz, do it properly, endure the UK a little longer and go by the book!. If you overstayed your welcome on another type of Visa this would almost definately go against you!

good luck.

for some reason we have yet to understand, our whole process from sending skills assessment in to being granted the visa was less than 10mths. That felt like an eternity at the time and we also thought about coming out sooner....since then we have met a couple of people who decided to try and take a short cut and have regretted it ever since. I'd say....wait for the visa to come (may not be as long as some people say) and be in a solid position when you come.

someone who is not genuinely asking the question, ie not interested in the reply just to get a reaction maybe to start an arguement. Not always easy to ID (looking at the other posts a user has done maybe an indicator) as there are genuine people who ask what might be consider 'silly/basic' questions because they don't know any better - thus replies are done giving the benefit of the doubt - this guy has got caught out especially with the new mod on the block noticing several different user names register by the same person.
