Hi all, I'm a part-time lurker of the board. I'm a Kiwi married to a lovely Pommie. We sent off our forms to the Aussie officials in February of this year and we have just been notified of the approval so we're chuffed to bits at the mo'.
Initial delays, as usual, were U.K. police checks, then the Aussies decided to get anal regarding one of the med. tests. Luckily the wife works in medical staffing so the medical issue was dealt with by one of her Doctor contacts.
I've family in Brisbane so thats where we plan to setup base. We'll be basically classed as residents but with no access to social securities etc - which is no problem as we'll be both work - perhaps start a small business in the retail sector if we spot any opportunities.
Its been a mad 5 yrs in the UK and I'll certainly miss the place. Ashamed to admit I don't mind the daily commute, or indeed the craptastic weather over here. Why did we decide to leave? Hard to boil it down to one thing, mostly a bit of 'well because we can' and we realised our life here was getting a tad stale if you know what I mean. Certainly be strange having the in-laws on two different continents now. probably a blessing
Ironically enough its supposed to hit 35.c today, I guess old blighty is doing its best to keep us here. fat chance!
Time for me to get back to work. I'll be browsing a few saved links from the forums tonight, so thx to all for the any tidbits of advice, and good luck with your applications & aspirations
Robbie. (...now Bob, but soon to be Bruce)
