Use St George bank if you must, but....
Loyal readers will have seen my rants against St George bank before but they do keep coming up with even more ammunition!
Mrs Rog has closed down her current account - virtually unused and costing money - so she cannot use the internet to check on her two deposit accounts ny more.
One matured yesterday so she asked for the money to be withdrawn: the $5000 on deposit was handed back less $8 cheque fee(!) and she was told that she couldn't have the -minimal- interest because it was "going into her nominated account"! (ie, we think, the one closed.....)
All with bad grace.
Their website is probably the worst I've ever seen (and that's saying something, isn't it!).
If you are thinking of opening an Oz bank account - consider your options, folks!

LATEST, LATEST!
Just heard that the interest was paid into a suspense account "due to the current account having lapsed".
And no, she can't have it from the suspense account: St George will write to her and she will have to find another way of getting (her own) money out.
Welcome to banking, Oz style!

Unfortunately there is good and bad with just about all the Banks.
We have accounts with St George aswell, and their mortgage side were able to lend us about $50k more than any of other banks, and that was even trying a couple of good brokers. So, for us, the St George bank do work out quite well, especially as we have fee free accounts.
Regarding the internet access, you can ring them and get the access account number changed to another account with them, eg: Credit Card etc. so you can still get the access. That happened to us before, so we found out the hard way too.

Mrs BP shut her St George account because they kept on changing the fee structure and moving her to innappropriate accounts. And yes their internet banking is utter b011oxs.
