Default US Lamps

Does anyone know if US lamps (bedside style) would work in Australia? I was wondering as the voltage is different in the US.

Thanks in anticipation.

US voltage is 110v. Aussie Voltage is 240v. Your lamps will burn out.

An electrical expert would have to give a view on this, but I thought lamps were ok with a different voltage provided you used a local bulb. Don't quote me though.

Almost correct - globe / bulb / lamp holder generally OK, 110 V globe / bulb / lamp NOK - replace with 240 V globe / bulb / lamp. US mostly Edison screw, AU mostly bayonet - both available in 240 V in AU.

If the lamp is "precious", it should not be too much hassle to re-wire/replace the inards with typical Australian bulb holder/plug/wire etc. Mind you, you will probably need to get 3 quotes, employ a project engineer to assemble a gang of electricians who will take 2 weeks to do the job when they eventually turn up and charge you twice as much as the original quote.
