Has anyone heard of the set top boxes in Australia where you can get some free sat channels like the type they have in the UK?

You can get a set top box here in Oz which will let you get digital channels... unfortunately, the Government has set a regulation that commercial television stations aren't allowed to offer additional program channels. So you won't get heaps of different channels like E4, for example. The only "extra" channels you get apart from the normal channels are ABC2, SBS World News, a program guide channel for each broadcaster (7, 9, 10, SBS, etc), and various random channels which show extra content during special events, such as cricket (for example, 7 Cricket will show extra stats on the screen than the normal 7 broadcast).

Don't bother with foxtel - not a patch on Sky and there is no sci-fi channel!
Can get SG-1 SGA, BSG on normal channels but we are a bit behind.
We've taken to downloading from the States....

Thanks, would find it hard to cope without my weekly updates of Sci-fi! Is there a site you can recommend for downloading?

I chuckled today..

driving into brisbane from the gateway motorway - on the lhs of road opposite volvo dealers is the BIGGEST satellite dish Ive ever seen on it is marked in very faded letters 'SKY' and.... its on a Feckun HUGE post like a lamppost...

Its very obviously defunct but i guess it was some expat 'battler' who gave it a go. Next time I drive into work I'll try to take a picture ;-)

I thought someone had taken my original advice literally.

Most of the channels on Foxtel?Austar ARE American so you have History, Discovery, Health etc etc. Quite a few are Canadian - which make the American ones look quite intellectual!
