Wa police used to look for uk police and all the testing was done in London. They are not currently at transitional officers. But an email to recruiting won’t hurt as they may tell you if they intend to recruit again. They were even offering PR status when you move.
it would be a step back into uniform

WAPOL hasn’t recruited from overseas for few years now, and given the states unemployment and budget, I think it would be hard to justify such a move.

Yes policework is the only thing I know as I joined very young. I think most police officers want out as things have changed and the pressure is intense. Unfortunately I have many more years left until I can get my pension as the government did us over, making us work longer, pay more contributions and cut the pension by a considerable lot. The contracts we signed at the beginning of our service meant nothing. I will be old and grey by the time I get out, so I desperately want a better quality of life and I thought Australia could provide me with that.
Anyone got any ideas or know of companies that would like to employ an ex british copper?
I'm a Brit in Canada, lurking on the Oz forum. I work in the financial services industry and we have a few ex-coppers (plus the odd ex-MI5/CSIS etc) in fraud/anti-money laundering, security risk areas. Particularly if you are/were a detective, do not underestimate the value of your skills. There are areas in the private sector (such as anti-money laundering etc that you might not have thought of!)

As a side note, your comments about the government's treatment of police officers make for very depressing reading. I consider the british police forces to be amongst the best in the world. Very sad to think we may be urinating on the fried potatoes.

Also what visa would I apply for?
My partner is a secondary school philosophy teacher.
Would it be likely to be able to become residents and get work?

we are just starting out on researching this,
Hi and welcome to BritishExpats.
If you were considering New Zealand at all you could perhaps join the Corrections Department as a corrections officer. Once you had gained NZ residency you would be eligible to apply for the NZ Police .
You could equally apply for a temporary NZ police force position and take up a tempory work visa. From there you would try for NZ residency.

I'm just throwing that out there as it may be something to consider or investigate.

There are certain parameters that needs to be matched in order to migrate Australia. The rules is almost same for everyone willing to migrate but as if she is an UK police officer there might be some factors that needs to be checked. The age & qualification are most important factor that needs to be as per the defined parameters.

Don't know where you are getting your info from but the rules are not the same for everyone. They vary enormously depending on a person's skills, age, work experience amongst other factors.
As already discussed in the thread, Police Officers are generally not able to migrate on a Skills visa unless they can pass a skills assessment in another area, or qualify for permanent residence by another route, such as a Partner Visa.

Then don’t move to the hotter parts of Australia. Never understood these statements

Didn't have much choice, married a Queenslander. Not everyone has the luxury of choosing their destination, some its family reasons, some its visa restrictions. Bring on the day I retire and go home.

Although these days I fail to see which part of Australia avoids the heat for at least part of the year.

That's a very naive comment.
