Default UK Electricals (ie DVD Player / Hi-fi Systems)

Hi,

We have begun "culling" our goods, for what we will and won't ship to Oz when we make the move next spring.

We have a small number of appliances we'd like to keep, such as our DVD player (multi-regon), Hi-Fi System, etc... but they all have UK style plugs.

It is worth shipping electrical goods to Oz, and can they be safely used with a coverter?

When we moved from North America to the UK 10 years ago, we didn't bother, but then again our goods ten years ago were cheap student electricals.

Any guidance or advice from those who have made the UK / OZ move would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

Australia and uk have the same voltage - 240v - so your electrical goods will be fine - you can either change the plugs when you get there or just use adapters.

Unless you fancy a chance to upgrade to the latest technology they will be fine as long as you can change a plug! Hassling with an adaptor is a bit of a pain because it increases the bulk at the power point and you will get sick and tired of that before too long.

Also with something like a hi-fi where you have lots of plugs, bring a 4 way power strip and change the plug to an aussie one. Then just plug your UK plugs into the power strip. This may be handy with occassional use kitchen stuff and in the garage (with a wandering lead).
