Re: TV Licence
I like the free to air tv here. Reasonably upto date movies and not back to back soaps like British telly.

And if there's nothing on I want to watch, then I find something else to do :D |
Re: TV Licence
No problems with the free to air tv. We have a hard drive recorder so watch everything a day later and take the adverts out.

Re: TV Licence
I find the adverts on ABC really annoying.
And the world news on SBS spends too much time on international news and not enough time on Australia or sport. Some of the programmes must be really old repeats as they keep mentioning pounds. :sneaky: |

As the ABC is not a commercial station, so they don't have paying adverts as such but promo's for their shows and/or activites- ABC radio, orchestra etc. I'm more annoyed with the vast amount of adverts and really crap shows on the other channels.
Maybe the fact that it is called "World News" gives you a hint that is is more focussed on international news for the diverse ethnic base than purely Australian news. This is, of course, why it is a multi-ethnic television station and not purely Australian. Some might have thought that I was taking the mickey :D |

Lack of good documentaries though, but thats what UK nova is for.

I think the TV is OK actually <cue usual pissing contest>.
Lots of live sport for free, some good stuff on the ABC and better stuff on SBS. Don't watch much of it but I can usual find something to amuse. The people that complain are usually the ones that expect to be entertained 24/7 by the 'Mogadon For The Masses'. |

No, for one, I was pleased to get some clarification.
With "I find the adverts on ABC really annoying", I was taking the mickey out of people who complain about the adverts and hanker for the BBC. ABC is the mini-me of the BBC even to the point where both organisation have the nickname "Auntie". ABC is as advert free as the BBC. With "And the world news on SBS spends too much time on international news and not enough time on Australia or sport", I was taking the mickey out of people who complain about Aussie news but have ventured no further than channels 7, 9 and 10. SBS World News Australia is one of the best news programmes going and is the equal of anything produced in the UK. ABC news is pretty good too. With, "Some of the programmes must be really old repeats as they keep mentioning pounds", I was taking the mickey out of people who complain about the content of Aus TV. The programming I watched over the past 2 nights was all British. At other times it's the same US stuff that you get in the UK. I do agree that the adverts on Aussie commercial TV is worse than UK commercial TV but aside from that I can't see what's so bad about it compared to the UK. Not enough to be worth paying a licence for... |
