Default TSB - exchange rate!

Hi guys
i posted at the end of last week that we had lodged our bond money via an International Money Transfer at our local TSB branch, well this morning we had confirmation of what rate we got.....2.61 which i don't think is bad, took less than 10 minutes and was hassle free
kind regards

Well done Rach,

That's quite a good rate, and one step closer! When is the house going on the market?

Steve.

We used HIFX today, rate 2.6270. Bank quote, 2.61 so we saved £247.93 and no charge from HIFX, bank wanted £35.00 (First Direct).

We opened an account with HIFX for our bond money but were then told that we didn't need to send it! We're going to transfer with Commonwealth.

Why would you want to transfer with Commonwealth.. it will cost you a couple of percent.

We are transfering some with commonwealth so that our bank account is set up when we arrive, but the bulk of the dosh will go with HIFX. It makes a real difference...

For us, that difference is a car, and a motorbike.

I dont like throwing even more money away than is absolutley needed.

Dear Steve

Why didn't you need to send the bond money?

Dear Jane

Apparently, the points for our skills on the MODL list went up from 5 to 10 while our application was going through. Therefore making up the 5 extra points that the bond money would have got us. We were getting prepared to send the bond money, but our agents phoned up to say that the visas had been granted! A nice little surprise! I'd rather have $100,000 in my pocket than theirs!

Steve.

It doesnt "cost" in that they say to you this will cost you x ammount.

It costs in that you get several percentage points less than you can score elswhere.

Its like those "free" deals in shops..
They forget to mention that its included in the price already.

Beleive me, I have checked this out.

I will use the Commonwealth to get an account set up so that money arrives when we do..
And HIFX will then send the rest of the money to that account when I decide the rate is best.

As I said... those few % points are worth a lot at the other end.

Why should Commonwealth bank have them, when I can use them?
