Default Transferring money to Oz (all of it)

I want to take the contents of my bank account with me, which, hopefully, will total £10,000+. How can funds of this amount be transferred without loosing an arm or a leg in transfer fees or other bank-related costs?

I'm using HiFX (there are advertising banners all over BE if you want to click a link) but there are other money transfer firms.
You can also use your own bank but it is likely to cost a lot in fees.

It's hard to say generally as it varies from bank to bank.
The banks will usually charge a fixed fee for carrying out the transaction and then give you a usually poor rate.
The specialist companies tend to have no fixed fee and a better rate.
Easiest way is to ask your bank to quote you the transfer costs of whatever amount it is you are thinking about and compare it to HiFx or someone else.

My browser filters out web-site banners and advertising. How much is HiFX charging you for the transfers? Is there a fixed percentage or a fixed fee? How much?

I'm not sure how it works, but I thought that they don't make a charge and give you a better rate, but how that can happen I'm not too sure!! They've been recommended to me by some people my fiance knows here too and I'll be getting in touch with them soon regarding a transfer. The link to their home page is http://www.hifx.co.uk/personal.aspx?...lientagentid=0 if that helps you at all!

We have been over here for 2 years now and have always used HIFX. Made initial large transfer of house sale proceeds and got good rate, since then have made several smaller transactions. Found them very easy to deal with, transfer process simple. Takes a little time to setup initial account as you need to validate it but can't quite remember how you do it.

HiFx are dead easy to set up, 1 phone call, 1 email and about 5 mins on the web and it was all done.
