Default Transfer of UK pensions to OZ

Hello all,

I've been reading most of the posts on this site for some time but finally decided to register as it all looks like happening pretty soon :scared: and I think I am going to need some good advice!

First question, We sent the $100K down for the bond 2 weeks ago, is it now a done deal? or has anyone been refused the visa after investing in the bond.

Second question, Does anyone know if it's better to just freeze your pension in the UK (a private pension) or is it better to go with one of these companies that advertise in the new breed of magazines about how to leave the UK and transfer it to oz.

Cheers,

Matt

assuming this is the 100k$ bond for 136 skilled visa - no you're pretty much done mate, congratulations. Im sure there are few that have been rejected post this point but pretty much all is in order and your visa will be granted very shortly.

On pensions - good luck - and get some proper advice , I havent yet but am going to !. Its not worth using 'free' advice

I have heard that unless you transfer your UK pension to Oz in the first 6 months of arrival, you will get charged Oz tax on the amount.
I have not taken any professional advice as I am only going for a 2 year job on a 457 visa, but you may wish to speak to someone who knows quite soon...

Thanks for that. Does anyone know of any good reputable companies that specialise in all the financial stuff relating to a move to oz.

I read an article in a mag from a guy called Geraint Davies from a company called Montfort, I was going to contact them but I've read a couple of threads and they seem to get a bit of a slagging, so i'm not so keen.

Anyone had any dealings with an IFA that specialises in this area, good or bad i'd be interested.

Cheers.

Try visiting Go Matilda's website. They are not just agents but give financial advice as well. We have had a quote from them but not used this bit if the service just yet - Alan Collett is a accountant as well as a migration agent which is quite handy for this sort of thing.
You really need to get proper advice as it's quite a complex area

Try a search for Montfort or Mr Davies before you sign up with them. Given their reputation on here I wouldn't use them. You can draw your own conclusions.
