What would happen if you pulled a international license and your passport and said "I'm on holiday" if stopped for a check after being banned.

If you have lost your Australian licence and try the old international licence trick, the Poice will check your details on their database and it will flag that your Oz licence is suspended/cancelled. They will then charge you with drive while suspended/disqualified.

If you lose your licence in Oz it is illegal to drive in Oz with another country's licence.

Not necessarily. A temp visa doesn't matter. They will check your name and car rego details on the database. If it shows you have an Aussie address and had previously held an Aussie licence but lost it then you are stuffed. You will be charged with unlicensed driving and everythig else they can think of.

You could be here on a two year working visa which is a temp visa; doesn't make any difference.

Yup, Exactly the same 12 points = banned. Also on public holidays and school holidays they have double points. If you are caught doing a 3 point speeding offence you will get 6 points. Opportunity to lose your licence in double quick time in school hols!

except you lose points in England, whereas you gain them in Aus

If you have an Australian Driving licence on a temp visa, then yes.
But most temp visa holders don't bother about an Australian licence, as it just isn't worth it. They cost money, they are not needed, and sometimes you aren't even eligible to get one.

Yes, if on a temp visa the licence doesn't need to be changed. If on a perm visa your lience needs to be changed to an Oz one within 3 months.

I thought the question was though if you lost your Oz licence and was trying it on with an international permit.

Yes, but you have to have a certificate to prove that you are able to use it competently.
