Not necessarily. All depends how long you stay, if you change your licence etc. There are numerous different factors that can affect this.

Yes, if you loose your NSW licence you can't drive in QLD....but as I understand it, if you live in NSW and commit a licence loosing offence in QLD, QLD can only stop you driving in their state, they have no right to cancel your NSW licence...if that makes sense

No, it doesn't work that way. The UK licence and Oz licence are totally separate. You won't lose any points on your UK licence and it shouldn't affect your Oz licence when you get it.

But it has happened to some people. Some have had the points added to their new Australian Licence once they change over.

I have heard that too. I think it's mainly releavnt when you move to Aus with your UK licence, get tagged for speeding on the UK licence, then say 8 months later apply and receive an Aus licence, which then gets linked to you, they see you committed a speeding voilation on xx date and apply that to your licence.

If you stay in Australia, it will catch up with you eventually. Each states road authority keep a dossier on prior traffic offences. When you change you UK licence this will be logged against your new Aussie one.

If you have a NSW licence and commit a licence loosing offence in QLD. QLD road authority will notify NSW road authority then after about a month you will recieve a notice stating that you licence is now suspended/cancelled.

Yep. They can't take any points if you return to the UK but once you switch your licence over... Lookout!

Is the points system similar in Oz to the UK, i.e. more than 12 points and your banned? also do points affect your car insurance premiums?

Yup, Exactly the same 12 points = banned. Also on public holidays and school holidays they have double points. If you are caught doing a 3 point speeding offence you will get 6 points. Opportunity to lose your licence in double quick time in school hols!

What would happen if you pulled a international license and your passport and said "I'm on holiday" if stopped for a check after being banned.

If your passport has a temp visa, you only get fined for any offence.

If you have a PR visa, and you have been here more than 3 months, you get fined for any offence AND for being an unlicenced driver.

Erm, they do keep records of these things! They can search by name. Are you going to pull an international driving licence with a fake name!

I forgot to mention, if the car is in your name, and has been for some time (they can check that online while stopping you), then you could be in trouble :D
