Townsville
We are thinking about Easter in Townsville and would like to know about hotels/motels etc. Any personal recommendations would be great. Also anything good to do in the area that is not in the tourist brochures.

It depends on your budget. There are the normal big international hotels, Holiday Inn and Jupiters Casino and everything in between.
Let me know what you are looking to spend and whther you want to be in the city or outside and I will try and point you in the right direction.

We were originally going to drive and bring the tent. But because it's just a long weekend we are thinking of coming up on the tilt train. We are not looking at spending too much, but would like a place with air con and a POOL!!

Try Seagulls resport. Very nice I am told and not that expensive considering what you get and how close to the city it is.

I would personally recommend a trip North to Paluma (about 70ks) to visit a beautiful tropical rainforest environment with spectacular views. It's popular as a weekend retreat with folks in Townsville escaping the heat of the lowlands.
I'm hoping to be moving to Townsville in the Autumn after giving it a lot of thought. I've been there before and being a wildlife enthusiast, I know that it's difficult to top for sheer biodiversity. However it gets very hot in the Summer, so come prepared.
