Default too good to be true?

Hi guys,

Just an update from my previous posts.

I have gone through two interviews successfully and I have been informed I will receive a formal job offer sometime next week.

This all sounds good and well, everything I asked and was told during the interview process was also sounding good ( maybe a little too good to be true). I emailed yesterday asking for an update and now the recruitment girl I am dealing with says she is gathering information about work visas in new zealand as the work in perth will have run out by the end of the year unless they get new contracts and they need to make sure i can work in new zealand. During the interview the manager said to not worry about stability and security as this is provided and they are very flexible and even looking to expand into other countries things where that good.

This has put me on edge as lack of perth work wasnt mentioned and I will be going to perth with my girlfriend who will be seeking employment there but no it looks as if I will be shipped all over the place. I hope I have picked it up all wrong and this is not the case.

Thats what it can be like for civil engineering over here mate, working from project offices on joint ventures is the norm and some of us larger consultancies do a lot of work over in Asia.

I dont understand why your not just coming over as a PR with your credentials, maybe it got harder since I did mine? Or your in a rush to get here and be tied down to one company for the next four years?

There are some changes going on at the minute and the government want the authorites to do more of the design work rather than farming it out to consultancies. No one thinks this is going to work due to staffing issues but a lot of major projects have been put on hold due to the cuts....Another reason to make yourself available as a floating resource mate

Well if you want security, and I think you said it was super important previously unless I am mixing you with someone else, it does not sound like you are going to get it with this company.

Iv emailed to ask a few questions and hopefully clear some issues up but it isn't looking as good anymore.
To be honest I don't know much about getting my own pr visa and how my girlfriend would fit into that. The sponsorship is appealing because they sort out all that sort of stuff and share the cost with regards to temp accommodation and other benefits. I don't think I would be comfortable going out on a whim.

If you have any advice you could throw my way I will take it on board mate.
