Slappy, I've always been of the impression that talking about bad stuff is very important.

Yes....I have hundreds.......it is my job.
Just google 'emotional processing'....if you are being genuine. Although I doubt if you are particularly interested. Also try googling 'hypocritical' so that you can start to understand your own attitude on this site. Wow. I didn’t realise. I googled it. I didn’t find any reference to group therapy from people with the same feeling discussing it. I found a lot of references to people verbalising their problems to trained psychologists. But nothing about the benefits of people with the same problems discussing it amongst themselves. I also found some alarming stuff by a guy called Tarvis. Apparently he is quite influential. Would you like to provide the references I am looking for? |

'I HATE Australia just because' is a bit silly at times, as is 'I HATE Australia because of fat people' - ditto. 'I HATE Australia because I live in mindless suburbia' is a viewpoint, is true, can be corrected..is an explanation.. 'I HATE the UK because of Mr Brown' is also silly and gets it's just desserts too....(unfortunately, negative posts tend to reveal why the unhappy camper is unhappy..but he or she doesn't like having this pointed out). Loads of people contribute and say negative things about Australia with no redress required. My negative Australia post carried well if memory served and was well atteded by all sorts of happy migrants... |

You are a psychologist? A member of the Australasian Psychological Society?
Wow. I didn’t realise. Would you like to provide the references I am looking for? It's not only psychologists who are therapists....they come from all sorts of professions. ....and no, I wouldn't care to supply you with references....you will find over a million on google You can't have looked very hard if you could not find any references to group therapy and emotional processing. As I said...I doubt if you are rally interested...you seem more interested in shit stirring on here. |

Its a free world Sally, or is BE some sort of “fit in with our negative views of Australia or clear off†society?:):):)
. Personally, I do not really have negative views of Aus, I am very glad that we have made the move but I have had to make huge adjustments, both personal & professional & it has taken time. It has been very helpful for me to read the shared experiences of others, it has helped me to keep perspective & be realistic in my expectation of self. I have gained great support & hopefully, have helped others. I cannot stand the 'I am unhappy here so hate evrything Aus' attitude but I equally dislike the 'UK has gone to cr&p' posts but people need to sound off sometimes & very often, these attitudes are passing phases. However, if you post strong views, expect to have disagreement! Perhaps you should google group therapy if you really want to know more on that subject! Just out of interest, & this is a genuine enquiry, if you are well established & happy in Aus, why the need to frequent a forum such as this? |

I find that questions get managed and answered in a way they might not get handled on a professional forum. |

Of course it is therapeutic. I do not have to give "evidence" as you put it. The op is worried about his wife. He as been here 3 weeks, surely to say how your feeling and that your confused may give you some help just by people talking to you about how "they see it", 3 weeks is not enough time and I for one wish that years ago we had the internet and a forum to chat.
On another note, people chat about how wonderful etc and use the forum to meet other British people. Is that wrong? I am not so sure Liz (or should I say your majesty):) You see, there are issues like group dynamics, conformity and epidemic hysertia to be considered. The social transmission of a belief across a group of like minded people can produce excessive emotion amongst the group. In effect the feeling feeds and multiplies off that of the others. Social psychologist Solomon Asch did a lot of work on this in the 1950s, and found that a group will influence each other - because they want to be liked by the group and because they believe the group is better informed than they are. Thus a group talking about how bad Australia is will simply reinforce that feeling within the group. It is for exactly this reason that epidemic hysertia is best moderated by healthy critical thinking skills and reassurance from trusted authority figures, not from the group that created it. |

So you are trolling then? I think its fair to stand up for the other side and try to provide a balanced discussion - hence my presence on this forum. I think that if you really read the posts on this forum, you will find that they are generally very balanced. You post as if no-one else on here likes Australia! |
