Default Tips on Self Employment

My wife has her own small business and wants to carry on trading in Oz.

Anybody got any tips on setting themselves up as self employed?

Only that after applying for your tax file numbers your wife will need to apply for an ABN. If she deals direct with public she may need public liability insurance too.

Other than that good luck to her in the venture

Thanks for the interest...

She's a Graphic Designer and basically works from home under contract to publishers, etc laying out books, publicity materials, that sort of stuff.

She also designs letterheads, business cards, corporate identities and the such (particularly for small companies)

Apologies if this reads like an advert - I don't really know what I'm talking about!

No licence needed for that then

Just the Tax number and ABN as previously stated. Maybe GST registration too.
