Default Time Scales Within 5 Years

Hi

Probably done a million times but as time can suddenly not be on your side what happens if you ahve been in oz say 18 months and your 5 year period is up before getting citizenship. Also to make up the 2 year period how laong does the last stint have to be an how do you make up the 2 years in the 5 ie stints of 6 months maybe.

Can anybody calrify this as the way things are going I can see that by the time we get there we may have had the visa for 2.5 years at this rate

Cheers

Mick

unless you get back in the country before your visa expires, say good bye.

You can either get a 5 year resident return or a 3 month RR.

If you dont have two years in australia, you have no chance.

Unless you can prove some strong tie or link to australia such as family or employment.

Trust me , been and done it.

Hiya Mick,
Can answer 100% BUT there has been changes made to the citizenship requirements. If you had your visa before July 2007 you need to check out the new requirements. Almost certain it is that you need 2 years before July 2010. After July 2007 its now 4 years for citizenship. There are threads around this parish on the subject
