Hi We had no problems with Qantas. Have flown with them both times that we've been to Oz. We asked if there was any chance of an upgrade last time on the way back from Brisbane and got one. Cracking seats with loads of room and all free of charge!!! Good luck Joex |

Check out the photos of the seats etc there. Qantas codeshare with BA and BA will often run the London leg. You can check if its a code share flight and if it is then you will be flying BA. I've only ever flown with them via Japan to Oz route and always found them to be as good as anyone else. |
Re: Thoughts on Quantas
Qantas (no U) are fine. Much better than BA. Staff are friendly and planes are modern.
I've flown to OZ twice with them and I was happy enough |
Re: Thoughts on Quantas
I just had the offer of free flights to Brisbane with Qantas....using some of my son's Frequent flier points.
I was on the phone for over an hour with the Qantas FF office but, unfortunately, we could not arrange anything suitable that fitted with the FF programme (not that many flights qualify). It was also close to the 'Ashes' which did not help. My son flies Business class with them several times a year...in fact he is calling in to see us next week on his way to New York :) He thinks they are fine but he travels Business class as his company pays. I have only used them for internal flights and they were OK. Bear in mind that Qantas and BA code share so you could be on either companies' planes. I eventually got my flights with SIA :) but had to pay :( G |
Re: Thoughts on Quantas
Only ever had great service from them, and I've done half a doz Aus - UK flights with them now. EXceptionally good when I went home for a funeral last month - very attentive service :)
Do make sure you are on Qantas operated flights, not those where the planes and crew are BA. |
Re: Thoughts on Quantas
What put me off booking with them is the fact you might end up on a BA flight! And there is NO way I would want to be doing that!! Loads of bad personal experience with them and from reading threads on here many others had same crap time with them!!

Re: Thoughts on Quantas
I always put them in a class with BA, if better.
I always ask to be upgraded when I fly because you always hear these 'stories' of everyman and his dog getting one. Never been upgraded yet... (!) |
Re: Thoughts on Quantas
Great company, nice planes, mordern entertainment systems, friendly staff, and though i hate to say it better than BA (apart from the food.)

Re: Thoughts on Quantas
For those flying to Melbourne, BA no longer fly here so you are guaranteed a Qantas plane all the way here :) It is fairly easy to discover whether you will be on a BA or Qantas plane, if that matters to you :) When they flew to Melbourne, if the BA flight no. was 3 digits eg Ba317 then it was a Qantas plane. If the Qantas flight no. was 3 digits then it was a BA plane. Haven't looked at other locations in Oz though but you should be able to work it out :)

Its the only international airline in the world that has never had a fatal plane crash.

Re: Thoughts on Quantas
Bit late to ask if you have already booked!!! IMO Qantas are much of a muchness with BA - service changes when flying Business or First as does most airlines. My one comment on them would be that if you are flying economy on an internal flight you do not get free alcohol!!!

Like wise we always ask but never get it, we even got my Sister to upgrade us to business class last year but it was full. We have always got exit row or bulkhead seats, I think the secret is just be nice to the booking staff. I would put them streets ahead of BA at least they have modern planes. I flew BA back to the UK a couple of years ago and the plane was that old the last time it flew it had a full bomb load over Berlin :D |
Re: Thoughts on Quantas
We flew with Qantus when we went to Australia nearly 4 years ago. The last leg on the way home between Singapore and Heathrow was with BA. Qantus were so much better. We were told that we couldn't pre-book seats but we phoned them before we left and asked if it would be possible to get the exit row seats as my husband is 6 foot 6 and needs the extra lef room. That was fine and the seats were booked for us when we checked in.
The plane was modern and there was a good choice of films and games on the individual screens. The staff were really nice too. |

So yes, no problem at all with Qantas (although they're not as good as Emirates by a huge, huge stretch, they're just not dire), but I won't fly with them as I risk getting a BA plane and I swear I will never ever set foot on one of them again unless it's an absolute emergeny. |

We fly BA from Newcastle to London but then have Quantas from London-Hongkong-Melbourne.
On the travel docs it says BA only on the UK leg and the rest Quatas. Can some one clarify if on the travel docs it says Quantas we will get Quantas? This will be my first flight over and im nervous enough Mandy |

This will be my first flight over and im nervous enough Mandy You will be fine - let's face it, no airline is perfect! My only tip with BA/Qantas would be to take some food with you, sandwiches or something, just incase they forget to feed you, like BA did with us - 17 hours with one meal :scared: Other than that, the staff were pretty helpful (although I didn't get any free fags, sadly). And you just have to remember - it's only one day. Then you're off the plane and away. I love Emirates, but I sat next to a man on my last flight who spent 5 of the 7 hours we shared telling me how much he hated Emirates, what a terrible time he had and how he'd never fly them again. It's all about the trip, the timing, and it's different for each individual! |

this has happened twice - trust us to sit in the wrong seat - the last time the bloke in front of me had the last fish dish  |
Re: Thoughts on Quantas
In my view they are on a par with BA (in division 2) they will feed and water you and get you there in 1 peice but they do lack a certain something that Singapore and Emirates offer.

Re: Thoughts on Quantas
Internal flights are good..
I did long haul with them on a round the world, and they were ok.. but gotta say, Singapore airlines and the likes are far better. K |
Re: Thoughts on Quantas
I know this thread is about Qantas, but I couldn't help and comment about what people have written about BA. I live in the US and I fly BA every time I go back to the UK. I fly back to Europe twice a year and have flown most US airlines over the years. Let me just say, compared to the US airlines BA is luxury. Travelling on American Airlines or US Airways to the UK is like taking a Greyhound bus or worse. Not much is free and the planes are dirty, the entertainment is awful (US Airways do offer better entertainment on their Airbus aircraft). Believe me guys, it could be worse. You could be stuck on a US aircraft! Happy flying!

Do they charge you for an upgrade?

Re: Thoughts on Quantas
I flew Delta once from Calgary (Can) to LA, it was great. I got totally smashed and slept the rest of the journey. Thats what I call first class.
I flew BA to Moscow and the only hitch we had was the two hour queue to get past customs. Now if you want to know about horror flights, dont get me started on my domestic flight between Moscow and St Petersburg!!! I thought Qantas were ok and being a vegan, they always had my proper meals etc. The only grumble was the plane from Brisbane to Singapore was a 747 and it was an old banger. Leg room nil. The guy in front of me , bar meals, had his seat extended the whole flight (his choice and right) which gave you the feeling of being a poor sardine in a can. |
Re: Thoughts on Quantas
btw, Does anyone have any knowledge on the best 'reward' sytems on offer that Qantas, Emirates, Singapore etc use?
I joined Qantas when I done my recce trip in Feb, but have no idea how their 'rewards' deal measures up against the rest. |
Re: Thoughts on Quantas
Just make sure your QANTAS flight (theres no U in it!!!) is not operated by BA and you will be fine. Half a dozen UK-Aus return flights, and they are excellent.
If you are thinking of joining Qantas Frequent Flyer, do it with a UK address, then its free. |
