Default Termites in the garden

Hi

I was doing some gardening this arvo and came across my first ever termites in the garden. Now I know that termites are part off life here, but I am not sure HOW part of life they are. Is this a problem that they are in my garden? The spot I found them in was about 5m from the house. As far as I am aware they have not started on the house!!!

I know some people have HORROR stories about termites so I want to make sure that I don't become one of them.

Do I need to do anything?

Thanks

Rudi

OK, so that's good advice......but is it from personal knowledge about termites or just because we POMS tend to freak out at the word "termite". I had kind of assumed from what people have said in the past that termites are probably present just about anywhere......it's only really a problem if they start eaating your house!!

Thanks

From what I've been told, if there in your garden, it's only a matter of time before they find your house. But sorry, I don't have a vast knowledge of termites, just the leaflet my termite guy gave me!

Thanks Gibbo - will try your method!!

I am sooooo suspicious of advice from "termite guys" - they want to sell you their services so of course they tell you the worst!!!

I've been doing some reading and basically they reckon that pretty much every garden has termites in it somewhere or other. Most of the time that's fine, but in 3% of homes per year they attack the house.

Lets hope I don't become one of those 3%!!!

Have just read this thread to my hubbie who has had experience of them at work... his advice... get someone out - Monday morning! If you can help it, you don't really want them in your garden.

Regards, Jarvl

cobblers,
they live in the garden supprisingly enough in trees as they eat wood

do some research before getting a specialist in
they can cost big bucks and you have to be very careful as there are lots of shysters in the termite game

there are termites in the ground all over the place.... either get your house sprayed or hopefully it will have termite barrier in it. Make sure there is nothing up against the house so that you can see the wee buggers tracks up the wall. They dont like sunlight thats why they make the tracks from mud so they can keep out the sun
