There is an offer which is "Temporary Full Time"

where to find information about differences between Permanent, Contract, and Temporary Full Time?

That sounds like a open ended contract on full time hours, Thank little Johnny

Seriously though, you should be able to stipulate dates on a contract, If your not on a contract, then you should be covered by "an award" which should include sickpay, holidays etc etc.

the contract says

Contract Conditions :
Your employment is for a fixed duration. Your contract on 12 Aug 2007 and concludes on 12 Aug 2008.

There should be holidays and sickpay in a period of that length, even with workchoices. I would enquire about that straight away if I were you.

That wont be an award, because awards dont stipulate time frames.

Problem is, there are employers out there taking this piiss out of this workchoice situation, and you may well have found a dodgy one especially if its a small employer. It's not legal but they tend to try and make it look like it is, especially with Migrants. If you are not sure, phone your local state MP's office for advice. It used to be that you could phone the Dept of Labour and employment and find out about the award.

What area of employment are you in, not retail I hope ?

Your position is for a fixed term and as such you cant expect continuation after that date (sound like cover for maternity leave).

As it is Govt you are covered by the usual entitlements eg sick leave etc.

These jobs usually roll over within the organisation as people leave for what ever reason.

Look at it as a foot in the door.

Permanent is for as long as forever is (a bit like lifetime guarantee). Includes entitlements.

Contract is a set period usually at an hourly rate. You are self-employed so you have to pay your own sick, leave, insurances, etc. As a business you can claim business expenses.

Very sensitive to any workchoice issues are Lib members, so they are even better to contact than Lab members, particuarly right now.

However as it's a Governmental job, I think you'll find it will be Kosher, and should include sickies and holidays. It's bloody annoying that it doesnt make it clear in the blurb eh ?

I'll be amazed if it isn't because it will be like the Libs shooting themselves in the foot.

In fact let me know please, via pm, and I'll relay it to places where it will get heard, if it turns out not include the normal benefits.

That's not vague, thats a standard govt temp contract. You will get the normal govt benefits, as regards sick leave, holiday etc, as if you were a permanent employee. You may find that as your contract nears its end they might offer you another one, or extend this one, for a further specified length of time. If your contract is extended then the benefits continue to build up.
If not, you will just cease to be employed by the govt on that end date.
You will be covered by the govt award applicable for your level/type of job. Which State Govt are you applying to work for?

Many many govt workers here are on temp contracts that get renewed over and over again. I work with one lady who has moved around the department on various contracts for the last 10 years. I myself went through a series of them for three years before getting a permanent role. Its a very normal type of contract for Australia, and being the govt is probably as safe a temp contract as you can get.
