I've seen the "sheep dip" thing happen - back in 2000 when the UK had the big foot and mouth outbreak everyone off UK flights had to have all their footwear disinfected, and all the luggage was searched for footwear, which was then disinfected. They also ask on the incoming pax card if you have been on a farm recently, if you tick "yes"then they may disinfect your footwear.

In the article, it said "Quarantine rules stipulate that animal matter - including wool and furs, as well as stuffed animals - are not allowed into the country."
Does it mean we really can't bring any stuff toys? Anybody experience this?

Of course Aussie customs did this because they're a bunch of mean spirited bastards who can't stand the though of 2 kids in distant countries forming a special bond.

Going through Melbourne airport last year the guy in front of me got charged $150 because he had mud on his shoes! not sure if something was going on that day though as everyone coming off the plane had to walk single file past the police drug sniffer dog & they also had a sniffer dog for fruit etc climbing all over the baggage in the reclaim area - wife got clobbered for having the little fruit bag off the plane in her pocket & I got atelling off for not declaring the maltesers in the kids hand luggage!
It took nearly 3 hours to get out of the airport that day.
