Question Teaching: UK 'v' NZ

In the process of emmigrating to NZ but want info on Primary teaching- NZ style in comparison to UK. Have got 10 years experience in the UK and would really like to find out about the workload in NZ! - Northshore, Auckland. Any teachers willing to let me know?

I am in Aus, not NZ, but from what I hear the pay is quite low and there is currently no shortage of primary teachers over there so it could be quite difficult to secure a post. Their school roles are falling and techers from NZ are migrating to Aus and UK!.
Secondary is another matter, they are short of about 2000 secondary teachers (maths, IT, science). With your experience you are likely to earn in the region of NZ$40k - 50k (that's £13k - 17k approx.). Note that you are entitled to only very limited sickness benefits for the first two years (this is what I was told anyway).

In terms of workload I find that UK teachers always feel hard done to (I was one myself, by the way) but in actuality you will find Aus and NZ teaching workload is very similar to the UK, albeit with a 'real terms' fall in income of about 20-30%.
