Teaching in Brisbane
Hi there,
I'm a primary teacher moving over to Brisbane in the summer. Can anyone give me any pointers on getting work out there. Is it possible to organise anything from this side in advance or just wait till we get there and start with supply? I'm aware we may have to wait till January for more of the longer term contacts or perm jobs but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Teaching in Brisbane
Not many tips I'm afraid. My only advice would be to get registered with the Queensland College of Teachers as soon as possible.
I put my application at the end of September and I'm still waiting! They normally do overseas qualifications within 3 months, but now it looks like 3+ months. Last time I spoke with them they said there was a bit of a backlog and couldn't say when it would be finalized.
Because of this I'm unable to teach, even if I wanted to. But, as luck with have it I'm not ready yet anyway because I'm still at home with the kids. But I had made some inquiries on supply teaching (called relief teaching here) and they said I had to be registered first.
You're probably right about starting off supplying. From everything I've read it's difficult to get permanent jobs in the city so you'll likely have to supply for a while.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I just wanted to make sure you got started on your registration asap.
