Building our own home
Hi there,
Been looking into building our own home and just wanted to find a little bit more about sloping blocks. In the area we're looking at most of the blocks seem to be sloping. How much of a problem is this and can you get them levelled out at a reasonable cost?

Re: Building our own home
Cost for excavation including removal of soil ranges from $10 to $25 per cubic metre here in Victoria. But remember soil expands when out of the ground so add 40% to the space you want to excavate.
Check the results of a soil test before buying if possible ie make the sale conditional on the soil test results. This helps in 2 ways - gives you an understanding of what foundations you can have - and what the costs wil be to get rid of it ie good clean soil is easier and cheaper.

L P Warren specialise in building on sloping blocks. They're not the only ones who will build on slope, but they are the specialists for those of us with a normal-size budget.
Edit - they're in Melbourne, not sure where you are.
