Smile Tax Return!!!

We made an appt to see a professional tax agent and got our tax returns done on 31st July. He was excellent and very efficient. He asked lots of questions and made sure we claimed for anything and everything that we were entitled to. Yesterday we received our chq from the tax office for our rebate! How quick is that and we can't believe we have it already. It's paid into the bank already as well, thanks very much!!! We also opted to have our family assistance paid to us at the end of the tax year as we didn't know how much we'd be earning. Yesterday we also got a letter about that and how much we'd be getting. Let's just say we took the letter to Centrelink to get it checked as it seemed far too much. We were told that it is correct and it's all ours .......... yippppeeee!!! So it's nice to know that with the petrol prices and interest rates going up all the time we have managed to get something back off the government!

Just doing our tax too, we sold our house last year so had money in the bank earning interest, included that in the information we were giving accountant, he asked us to make absolutely sure that was all we had earnt. He says all interest earnt and all centerlink payments now come up on the tax dept mainframe, hes expecting the ATO to crosscheck interest and centerlink claims this year as they now have the info at a touch of the keypad.

Hi
We have tax accountant coming tonight, but he hasn't asid he needs any centrelink payment details All I got ready was the year end earnings letter from our employers & a statement from the bank about the interest earned & tax deducted from it.
Do I need something from Centrelink as well ? We only claimed child tax credit, reduced nursery fees & some rent assistance.

Tax dept has already got details of what you get from centerlink, at the end of the year the info is cross checked to ensure what you received was correct according to your end of year earnings, an adjustment either way is then made.

As of this year the interest on bank accounts is more easily available to them too, if your declaring it nothing to worry about.

Thanks for that. I think I mis-read you first post, I thought I had to tell them how much I got & then you meant they just checked up on us

Ok what the accountant said was they now have bank interest on thier mainframe, like they have all centerlink info on the mainframe.

Some huge improvement has been made to the bank interest part of the system, even the accountant could check up if our interest declared was correct, (which it was) so yes they do check up on you now.

Remember too aus taxes on worldwide income not just what you earn in OZ.

Ring Centrelink, explain what he said and see if they can help if any docs are needed.

I am just wondering - if a person gets overseas income, wont he be taxed
in both countries?

You won't be taxed twice if you have paid tax already in the Uk but centerlink will count it as income earned.
