Default Tax claim when relocating for work.

Hi All

We are currently in Sydney, but I have a new position in Queensland (same company) However, they will not help with moving costs.

Can I claim any of these costs against next years tax?

Just wondering what receipts I should be taking care of.

Cheers
Mark

You can bin all the receipts, because you cannot claim any relocation costs in next year's tax return (or any other tax return).

Sorry, I know it's not what you wanted to hear. Don't blame me, blame the ATO.

No, you can't claim for that either, because it's classes as "furniture" (see below). If you buy a filing cabinet and it's under $300 you can claim it, because that's classed as "equipment".

But keep a record for how many hours you work in your little home office; you can claim the grand total of $0.26 per hour (this includes depreciation on "furniture", which is why you can claim for the desk and chair).
