Good lord Possums you have fires all round you!! I hope they get them under control soon :(

The high winds yesterday wouldn't have helped at all, lets hope weather conditions are a little more helpful today.

Thinking of you,
Kerry

I agree with the fires have only been here 9 weeks and seen 3 so far!!! The one that the fire service says is in Action Park is not its actually in Clarendon Vale and it started on Friday. Thats just a couple of hills over from us and the smoke and flames were amazing, its still burning cause of the winds but under control at least, feel sorry for the people in Snug and surrounding as know the fire that started there on Friday too is still out of control due to the winds. Its defo scary, behind us is loads of bush and apparently 18 months ago they nearly lost all these houses cause of a big fire, we have the fire copter going over constantely over the last few days.

Another ex-pat said to me, Tassie smells like smoke in Summer from Bushfires, and smells like smoke in winter from the fire heaters. Seem's to be true

All sounds very scary with the bushfires.... Do people get used to them being a fact of life in Australia? We had a fire once in the fields our house backs onto (probably started by kids) - and i remember ringing 999 for the fire-brigade and my hand was shaking as i was that convinced that it was going to turn and head straight for our house - but that was nothing compared to what i've seen on TV regarding Australian fires... There was a really big fire in Western Australia last week as well...
What area's are most affected normally by the fires? Are you less at risk the closer to the water you live and have little bush area's around you?

most fires are in forestry areas, but semi-rural areas can have some tragic fires where homes and lives are lost. There have been some famous one's like 'Ash Wednesday"

http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/DSE/nrenfo...256DAB0027ECA3

but anyone living in a rural area usually have firebreaks and other precautions

thanks for the link Teabag. Very interesting and very sad at how many lives were lost. I dont think i could ever get used to seeing burn't out land and the charcoal remains of trees....
We visited Clifton Lake when we were in Mandurah - you probably know the place - and i was shocked at how many trees were burn't out there...
It seems no matter where anyone chooses to live in the world there's always going to be something...be it fires, flooding, bad weather etc....
I guess with rising temperatures that the possibility of fires will increase in years to come...very sobering thought.

On a much less serious note ( and I hope all the fires are out x)

I just thought i'd do a quick update as lots of you have PM'd me to see whats going on!!!

I have cancelled my flight:( as the Doctors and midwives advised against it and I also did my own bit of research and a DVT is risky at the best of times to all sorts of people but I fell into the 'High Risk' category so we felt it best to cancel (much sobbing was done!!)

Jerad is going ahead with 3 of our boys ...so at least they will all have validated and I will have to apply for a spouse visa (will look into it this week!) and sort out the 2 little ones, Jerad decided he didn't want to go to Tas without me ( methinks he didn't want to be on his own for 3 wks with the kids :sneaky:!!) so I cancelled the 2nd part of our holiday v.v.sad .

Never mind .......this lil lady is already causing problems;) but all is well so far so I must focus on that !........and writing notes and pinning them on all the documents and labelling everything for my lovely hubby:rofl: I will be an experience for him as I always sort everything out as all us ladies do ;)

Thanks To you all

Oh dear you poor thing!:( But as everyone says you and the bub are far more important than validating your visa. And there are ways around it, it may just take a little longer but you'll get there in the end!:)
