hi there,

we are only just starting off the whole migration process, but are really interested in living in Tasmania. There are alot of different opiniona about Tas and its hard not to believe all the negative things you read. We are after the different climates (pretty much like the UK) and a really nice place to bring up children and although we are a really long way off yet we having been looking at Hobart, Kingston Beach and Taroona, anywhere else anyone can recommend thats child friendly with good schools.

Thanks

There must be loads of places. I am in Burnie at the moment in a rental. Some people said it was not as good as other places. But i find its good. Loads of beaches along the West side. I have not seen every where yet, but the landscape is very similar to the UK (parts of it). Weather has been ok and better than what i am used to (Newcastle) Some days it rains etc and can get very windy. But many a day after work i can walk along the beach (on a wooden boardwalk) to the house and you can see loads of kids with their surf boards in the water. Burnie surf club is just at the bottom of the town next to the sea. So it's not that cold but seems to be on average 10c cooler than the mainland. Devonport looked nice too from what i saw. People here are very friendly and easy to talk to.
I got my drivers license within 10 mins in Burnie without having to take a test because of my UK license, just so you know. Amazing service i thought, this included taking my picture etc. Any way good luck.

Hi,
Kingston Beach and Taroona are very nice suburbs and the house prices reflect that. $300k to $500k. We are moving to Huonville, a country town about 20mins drive from Kingston and 30mins from central Hobart, and homes are still under the $300k price range - It is very pretty and I am hoping it has a community feel to it as I need to make some friends. I am currently living in Glenorchy and it is very close to town and services if that is what you are looking for. But I want the quiet life.

Re: Tasmania??

thanks for the replies,
did originally look at Glenorchy as the house prices were i have to admit more in our price range. Although 20 mins drive doesn't sound bad either, will have to let me know what you think of Huonville once you have been there a while.
I wish the whole migration process didnt take so long, but hey i guess it gives us plenty of time to research everything we need to know, and hopefully will have made lots of contacts by the time we get to Tas ourselves. (waiting for Vetassess to let us know whether OH has passed ) x

Hello All!!

Finally booked the validation trip (never thought we would be going and coming back!!:( ) now I need to pick your brains  for some accommodation tips.
I can look for hours but i'd really like some recommendations from people who have actually stayed there ,I have asked this before but there are more people who have since left for Tas so are more 'In the know!'
We arrive in Tas from a week in Sydney on the 2nd Feb for 1 week

Thanks so much ;)

Zoe

Zoe, Which are you looking at in Tassie or are you traveling around, If traveling around I'd say 3 days around Launceston and 4 days near Hobart.
Will see what places my mother-in-law recommends.

Thanks Gary I can't wait to see Tas!!
I think we will look primarily in the south as the places we like (only from internet research mind you!!) seem to be south of Hobart like Huonville and surrounding areas.

We are having to do it like this as the house sale fell through ............and so on!! but we will at least see where it is we will move to in Tas when the house is gone

Bye for now

Zo ;)

That would be great!! It looks so lovely and reasonable house prices and i've contacted the local schools (they have a HUGE catchment area don't they?!)
and they seem thrilled that I have 4 boys to enrol!!:D
Cheers

Hello Ian and Helena!!:)

We are located in Moonah for now got a rental for 6 months and hope to buy some where soon. Quite fancy a semi rural place, like New Norfolk way. Duncan has got a job with a contractors working in the forest fixing the machinery they use up there. He loves it.

I beleive you're around here some where aren't you? I'll PM you with our number maybe we can meet for coffee.

Re: Tasmania??

Hiya, glad your enjoying Tassie. Great friendly bunch of people ain't they. And yes tis lovely weather today. Had to walk along da beach again to the house looking out over the blue sea with loads of people in the sea with their kyaks etc. Glad Duncan is enjoying his work too. I got the wife and kids coming out a week Thursday for a visit but they only here for 10 days due to her work commitments. Bloody house not sold yet, ah well. Gives me an excuse to hire a car. Any way nice to hear things going good for you all.
