Hey and dont forget to post everything you can about Tas. Waiting with baited breath as to what you thought of it, have been in touch with Corinne quite a bit, they are still travelling around trying to find which area they want to live in, but loving it all the same as are the kids.

Shona

Hi Shona. I'm glad Corinne & Co are all doing ok over in Tassie. We did like the place - i will send a more detailed response on the place when we get back to the UK. We're here in Western Australia for another 8 days, currently at the OH sister's house in Pearsall - but we are driving down to Mandurah tomorrow for a 3 night stay - hopefully our daughter & son will enjoy the beach then and we can do a few things like crabbing which should be fun!

I nearly forgot - you were right about the flies in WA! Boy are they irritating - dive bombing your nose and eyes!

One thing I think you all should be aware of when considering Tassie is the weather. You probably have anyway. It is a much cooler place than Perth or QLD. Having said that, you will probably have read on here how much people have found the heat unbearable in those places. The biggest sticking point with Tassie over the years has been the availability of jobs, so make sure there is work available in your field. Taking all that into account I think Tassie is a great place and I would live there tomorrow but I cant budge the other half.:thumbup:

The weather in Tassie is a big deciding factor for me and my family in us choosing the place as a possible place to move to....
Whilst we were over last week the weather was lovely, a bit chilly in the evening the 1st night we arrived but after that - it wasn't as cool - but during the day the weather was lovely...
We know what you mean about the job situation, my OH met up with a few prospective employees for his line of work - and because we cant give a definite arrival date they've kind of just said get in touch nearer the time we move. The hourly rates were much less than what's on offer here in Perth for example - but we know that we need to weigh up the cost of properties etc -
so hopefully it wont be too bad....Just need to get the OH to stop thinking in Pounds and start thinking in Dollars...
One thing we did notice though is that we thought that grocery shopping and things like clothes are more expensive in Oz than what we pay at home....
I guess there are things that are cheaper - but i guess you discover that once you're actually living somewhere properly....

Yes you are right. Australia has gone from being cheaper for the items you mentioned to dearer, compared to the UK.

Having been through one winter must be honest we thought it was going to be a lot colder, there can be a misconception about Tassie weather. Granted not like Perth or QLD but it has been very warm here the last few weeks, and because of high UV rays its very easy to get burnt. My OH has some contracters from QLD working with him at the moment who reseambled a pair of lobsters they got so badly burnt!
