Our Toshiba TV worked here fine without any conversion. TV is not so good here, instead of getting Foxtel download UK programs from UKNova or other bittorent sites & watch those instead.

Just curious (confused! ) if PAL is analogue format then how all this works as I was clear up to this point...if the PAL I B/G issue is just relative to analogue and ahhhhh stop...think I'll stop worrying and take the TV and get an Aussie VCR or FOXTEL, if there are issues then have an accident with it an claim a new one on insurance..oopss did I say that...

The first part defines the number of lines, scan rate, frames per sec, etc... This is where PAL differs from something like NTSC but where the UK and Aussie versions of PAL match.
The second part is how the picture is encoded onto a radio signal for transmission (and therefore reception through an aerial). This is where the Aussie and UK versions of PAL differ (in that the sound is encoded on a different frequency - hence people getting a picture without sound). SCART does not need to encode the picture (and sound) onto a radio frequency which is why an Aussie VCR will talk to a UK TV through SCART.
IMHO, if it's not going to cost you any more, you may as well bring the TV and the DVD player anyway. New release DVDs (or any DVD) are only $1 to rent from out local Civic Video store on Mondays and Tuesdays.

They have limited membership (something like 30,000), but they clear the deadwood out from time to time, so you have to keep checking if you don't get enrolled straight away.

You might not be able to register & the 1st attempt but keep trying & you will get on. They have programs from all the terrestrial channels but not Sky.
UKNova rocks.

Programs that are shown on UK TV are available on UKNova the next morning, so it's pretty up to date.

Check if your machine is divx capable, a lot of the cheaper, non-brand name machines are whilst branded machines are not. There is software, cucusoft I think it's called, that can convert avi to normal DVD format which can be played on any machine.

To clarify Analogue TV - PAL I and PAL B/G:
Buying an Aussie VCR fixes the problem because you're using the tuner in the VCR rather than the TV. The VCR is set up for OZ TV signals.
You still have to use the A/V channel on your TV and use the VCR remote, but I don't think it's a huge inconvenience.
Big.

Can't help with animal carriers but one piece of advice. Buy their sky kennels at least two months in advance and put your pets in them for a short period each day, to get them used to them. Gradually increase the time they are in them as they may panic if you do not do this.
It is a long journey to OZ and to suddenly shut an animal in a cage for approx 24 hours, if they are not used to it ,can terrify them.
Good luck.
