Just wondered if anyone out there has managed to get their pushchair on to their flight as hand luggage???

We have just bought a new pushchair that fits in to a small holdall type bag and I have heard that you can get it on as carry on luggage.

I dont fancy juggling a toddler while we wait to get through immigration in australia and havng him in pushchair would be so much better.

Check it in with your luggage but keep it with you until you board the plane..you then fold it and leave it at top of plane steps and staff will stick it in the hold for you. Then on arrival your push chair will be on the tarmac or first on the luggage carousel. Voila!

That's been my experience too.... although it has been a few years since my girls used buggies.

yes same here, flew with Singapore.
left it before got on plane and it was waiting for me when I got off.

I remember one flight with Malaysian they let me take the pushchair on as the flight wasn't full so it could go in an overhead locker, was only a small Maclaren.

Even if you can't get it back until baggage claim which we have found with a couple of flights where the baggage handlers messed up and sent it down with the luggage there are often airport ones which you can use that are left near the gates

we have just come back from perth so this is what happened to us

london -sing buggy was at the gate about 5 mins after we landeded

perth to sing was on the hold luggege thingie BUT there was buggies that you could borrow until you got your back.

perth back to sing same as above really handed buggie back just as you were getting on and it was with you on at the gate in singapore

sing -lhw buggie back at the gate did not have to worry about carrying dd aged 16 months anywhere

Can you take your car seats as well? Don't want to send them in the container as we need to use them when we get there. Can't imagine the airline letting me take two car seats, buggy and our hand luggage

They'll be 4 years and 8 months old so do need the car seats. Could prob get by with a standard buggy though for a few weeks.

are you paying for a seat for your baby???? if not book a sky cot brilliant you get bulk head seats and loads of leg room

Puzzles me why everyone loves the bulkhead seats, you can't stretch your legs out at all as there's a wall in front of you, at least the other ones you can stretch them out under the seat in front. I think the six flights that I have done with the sky cots were the most uncomfortable flights I have ever flown because of the wall

Qantas lost our double pram even though we gave it to them at the aircraft door - it didnt turn up for 5 days.

I have done silly amount of flights with a baby between the UK an Europe.

Tried other prams, but a women with small baby and heavy umbrella pram was awful. So got rid of it and got a zapp, after travelling every 2-3 weeks for a year this pram was ace. Im not the tallest of ladies, hence like the compact size of zapp when folded.

I have a quinny zapp which folds much smaller. This is a godsend when travelling as much smaller than umbrella buggy. The quinny fits in any small car and is easy to get on public transport.

The zapp should fit in overhead locker on long haul flights. However most airlines take the pram(if its umbrellas size or bigger) off you at the the plane steps/door.

After nearly 2 years of use my zapp is worn so got a new shiny pink one for Aus! As its my choice when visiting cities, nips around shops and tourist attractions, taxi drivers love them.

Some people hate the zapp but for me it was a life saver.
