I shipped my car and saved a few thousand $$$. Shipped Roll On Roll Off and no damage. Sent it ahead of time too.

Weigh up the costs:-

1. Sale price in uk < Equivalent car in Oz? Think about shipping + costs.

2. Shipping costs = ? (ours was $8300 all told)

Can you buy the equivalent car with the same kilometerage in Oz for what you sell yours for in the UK? If not then add about $9k to be safe.

It's not too difficult to import but you need to prove you have owned it for more then 12 consecutive months before you'll get an import approval, which must be done before you ship.

As Alfresco says, it can be worthwhile. We brought my hubby's Harley over and you just need do a bit of research on prices etc to check first. Have a look at www.carsales.com.au and this thread http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=544716 which I posted some time back. It was around 3 years ago, so check the latest prices/rules but we'd definitely do it again. We were just about to sell the bike on Ebay for GBP 4000 when we realised prices were massively higher here and it's still worth what he paid for it in 2001
