Sunshine Coast Schools info
Anyone moving to the Sunshine coast with kids might find this info useful -
We contacted two schools over the weekend, both in Caloundra,. One of them Talara Primary, had a very tight catchment area. We were concerned that if we initially don't move into that area, would they waive the catchment rules. The answer was a very definate NO. If you're not in the area you don't get in. This also applies if you subsequently move out of the area, and there's no room for negotiaition
I don't know know if this is a common thing in other schools in Oz, but it's worth bearing in mind if you plan to move around or be in temporary accomodation It could have an impact on what school your kids can go to. We didn't want our daughter to have to change schools when we find somewhere permanent.
Having said this, the other school we contacted, Caloundra Primary, said they don't mind where we live, they have no catchment area, and they have space.
There are also some decent day care centres in the area for pre-school children. The charges are about $150 per 5 day week

Not that I know of, but it sounds as if it might be a bit more exclusive.
