Sub-Division of land

Sub-Division of land
We're hoping to be out on the GC at the end of August and my brother and his family are hoping to follow us out there next January.
We are very close and quite fancy buying a biggish plot of land with the view to subdividing it and building our own houses on it.
Has anyone had any experience of this and if so, is it easy to do?
I guess that council permission has to be granted first.

I can certainly pass your question on to the GCS Building Specialist if you would like me to?

It definitely has to go through council. Not all blocks are sub-divideable, so don't just assume it will be - you can phone the council and ask.
