Stupid PC question
#1
I know that this is probably yet another stupid question from me. I am renowned for them !!
I want to save my digital photos onto a floppy or cd as I am leaving my PC behind and buying a new one. Problem is the floppy hasn't got enough memory (I'd probably end up with one floppy per photo !) and I can't seem to save to a cd.
Any one got any ideas ? The only one I can think of is to keep the photos on the camera memory card and, when I get to Oz, buy a pc with a cd writer. Is there a better way ?

I have tried that but I'm not exactly PC literate yet - am waiting for the kids to grow up and show me !
I did get a few on the floppy but it was literally less than a dozen and I've taken hundreds of photos - would take me years

Can't you take the card into a Kodak shop or other similar shops & they will put them on CD for you, I know they do it over here in Aus.

We had much the same problem as you. You can buy a small pen-like device that plugs into the USB sockets on the front of the PC and it becomes a removeable G: drive. We bought one called 'disgo' from PC World, it has 128MB of memory, but there are some with double this capacity. I think it cost £49 - very easy to use and you can save loads of photos.

PS in answer to your stupid question, here's another: does you PC have a CD-RW or a standard CD-ROM? If it doesn't say CD-RW on the front then you can't save to CD.

I would go for this option too. Most photography shops will do this now for a small fee and at least you know it will be done right

You know - when I bought this pc I could have sworn it could write to cd's. I can remember the guy telling me abou it in PC World but now that it comes to actually wanting to use it, it would appear to be missing !! Yeah, ok, so my memory might not be too hot after 4 years but I still reckon it's a case of misselling !!

If I do this - will I be able to view the photos from the CD on my pc ?

If you have broadband, email em to me and I'll burn em to a CD for you - it will cost you a quid to cover postage and materials.
Send me a PM and I'll give you my email address so you can send them (one at a time) if you want.
I take it the photos aren't totally huge? (i.e. you have a <6MP digital camera and they are not in RAW format)
Andy
Alternatively, I can let you have a USB drive where you can save them
