Whereis is naff (the maps are miniature), try good old Multimap and click on australia on the world map and away ya go

Personally I use Street-directory which I find unbeatable for Melbourne at least.

I always use the route planner on the Visit Victoria website.
Its fast and also gives you a sense of the distances envolved.
