State Sponsorship - What's it worth?

State Sponsorship - What's it worth?
Hi guys - just wanted to pick your brains.
We are going down the business visa (state sponsored) route. Once (hopefully) we have state sponsorship, what is the likelihood of the full visa being granted?
Is this a good indication?
Any advice or first hand experience would be appreciated.
Thanks - free karma to all who reply (cheap shot or what)

Give me karma,
The 7 Dwarves are standing outside a convent. Then Happy goes and knocks on the door. A nun answers and says "Can I help you, my child?" Happy says "Are there any 3 foot nuns in this convent?" The nun is puzzled, and says "No, there are no 3 foot nuns in this convent." Happy thinks for a minute, then says "Are there any 3 foot nuns in this city?" The nun says "No, there are no 3 foot nuns in this city." So Happy leaves and forms a huddle with the rest of the dwarves. Then a few minutes later, Doc leaves the huddle and goes and knocks on the door. The same nun answers and says "What now?" Doc says, "Ok, are there any 3 foot nuns in this state?" The nun says "No! There are no 3 foot nuns!" Doc thinks, then says "Are there any 3 foot nuns in this country?" The nun is starting to get mad, and says "NO! THERE ARE NO 3 FOOT NUNS!" So Doc leaves and returns to the huddle. A few minutes later, Sleepy goes and knocks on the door. The same nun answers. Sleepy says "Are there any 3 foot nuns on this continent?" The nun says "NO!! HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU??? THERE ARE NO 3 FOOT NUNS!!" Sleepy says "Are there any 3 foot nuns anywhere in the world?" The nun says "NO!!" and slams the door in this face. Sleepy returns to the huddle, then a few minutes later, all the dwarves start running around laughing and chanting "DOPEY SCREWED A PENGUIN! DOPEY SCREWED A PENGUIN!"

Slightly different category but still state sponsorship.
See earlier thread entitled Victorian State Sponsorship.
It would appear - just as Live in Vic suggest - thaat once you ahve sponsorship then you are fast tracked through.
See you in 4/5 months then Victoria?

Fast tracked? I'm liking that! Better get the house on the market quick seeing as they're not selling too fast.
Thanks - any more info anyone?

Re: State Sponsorship - What's it worth?
So here's the info I have to date.
The Victorian Governemnt are clear that my occupation (Secondary Teacher) is in demand hence they are willing to sponsor. Good factors with sponsorship being the reduced points total and the 'fast tracking' of applications along the skilled migrant route.
What's different: very little really but you need to get state nomination for the STNI visa. Once you have provided the state with the info they ratify your selection but this is depnendent upon skills assessment in Oz. lengthy, time-consuming and not too cheap but a case of short term pain for long term gain.
All that happens then is the Independent Skilled Application is fast-tracked through.
You might wish to subscribe to the immigrationa nd visa specific m,essage borad. there are a couple of threads there already titled STNI or Visa 137 that might help.
Good luck with the house sale. Will you miss John Lewis?

We are applying for a state sponsored business owner provisional visa 163, we have just received our sponsorship from the WA Government. We are now in the process of applying for the visa. It seems once you have been sponsored your still have to go through all the formalities of obtaining the visa, but your sponsor will support your visa application and help with any problems you encounter on the way. This s a 4 year temporary visa, is this is the type of visa you are talking about?

State sponsorship just means the DIMIA rules are easier to meet - but DIMIA will insist their requirements are met.

Re: State Sponsorship - What's it worth?
Thanks for all the info.
We have really done our homework and put a lot of time and effort into preparing our business plan etc. We've already had our police checks done and are in the process of arranging meds, but we cannot submit the application until the end of year figures have been finalised - better put some pressure on the accountant!
I know it's a "how long is a piece of string" question, but has anyone got any freedback from the time it took them to get state sponsorship through to main visa approval?
Family aren't keen on us going really and we'll know NOBODY when we get over to Oz (hopefully heading to Perth like the majority of others!), but we're not stupid and we're trying to be very logical with the whole procedure.
Doesn't stop you wanting an answer, though, does it?
And yes, looking at the shops during our reccie, I think I definately will miss John Lewis, Marks and Sparks and BBC TV.
Thanks guys,
Jules
