Hope this helps Steve |
Re: speed camera's

I believe that most car speedometers can be out by about 10%, certainly in the UK, the authorities don't usually prosecute unless you are in excess of 10% above the posted speed limit.

Re: speed camera's
thanks for your replys but would really like to find out if those bloody black tripods things flash at you.
I thinks its 9k's over and its points but cant afford a fine right now, saying that it will take them 6 months to send the fine out anyway if you believe the media |

You'd be surprised how many time the words "operational requirements" can crop up when they get nabbed by the press. For example, when the new camera on the Story Bridge went online, police vehicles were reported in the press being caught on film but no official action was taken according to the press releases at the time "due to operational requirements". |

Hope this helps Steve The allowance in Vic is 3kph (or 2kph with a fixed camera). If you're caught then they knock the allowance off the recorded speed for the ticket. For example if you were doing 65kph in a 60 zone then you will get a ticket for 62kph. Just saying this it confuses some people as to how they can get a 2kph over ticket when the allowance is 3kph. Sorry can't help with the OP but hopefully your speedo is over-reading and the tolerance is probably higher than Vic. Note that in Vic, you can get your first ticket (in a three year period) reduced to a caution (no fine) if your speed is less than 10kph over the limit. You just need to send them a groveling letter saying it was an accident and that you've learned your lesson. |

Of course it doesn't necessarily mean they have good reason.
Point is, how would you, or the press know? Recently some guy sent footage of two motorcycle cops cruising up the Bruce Hwy near Caboolture doing over 130kph, side by side, proved by his speedo, without lights, sirens etc, into ACA and it made the next days show. Unfortunately for him, when the two cops realised that someone was following them with a camera, they pulled him over and booked him. |

I Know for a fact they do prosecute police officers speeding in police vehicles here in WA. My brother in law was finded when he was caught on camera, he realised after he should have just pulled over the car in front for a routine check and that would have been his excuse for speeding and had the fine quashed.

didn't have an excuse. However, no sirens or lights, doesn't always mean no legitimate reason!! |

No. Not even which suburb we live in, never mind our street or house number! Calling from a mobile there would have been no way for them to know unless we told them. The fact is that here in WA the police don't give a s**t about you being robbed while your children sleep.
So what happened next? did you ring back or did you deal with the situation yourself? |

Re: speed camera's
[QUOTE=I believe the authorities don't usually prosecute unless you are in excess of 10% above the posted speed limit
Steve[/QUOTE] Not 100% sure...but Ithink this is an outdated assumption in the UK. The new digital camera's clock the actual speed of the car and the new digital electronics and better engineering in car manufacture is taken as accurate. Hence complaint that speedo watching can cause accidents. In Oz it seems normal for there to be at least three warning signs about camera's, so if you get nicked....... Heading out of Melbourne a couple of years back, we spotted a copper with an hand held speed camera hiding in a bush! So in Oz at least - the UK habit of slowing fo rthe camera ..then legging it to make up time....is not a good idea. |
